Well, it’s that time of year. We are barreling towards a new year and everyone is seemingly getting hyped for the way their lives are going to turn around in 2023. Resolutions are being set. Dry January is about to be all the rage. Your friends and family members are probably making cheeky comments about how they’ll get back to better eating and drinking habits after New Year's Eve. Influencers all over the place are encouraging you to set yourself up for success and join x,y,z programs/classes/cohorts to stay on track to becoming a better you.
Are you exhausted yet?
Instead, I’ve got a different proposal for you.
Don’t fixate on all the things left on your to-do list or the broken 2022 resolutions you never actually fulfilled. Instead, give yourself a break and take five minutes to reflect back on this year and write down your wins.
No matter how big or how small, but important to you, take at least five minutes (preferably right now) to put on some calming music and let your mind ruminate over the successes you’ve had in 2022.
Free flow, write them down.
Are there any money wins you accomplished? Did you save a little more than you expected or increase your retirement contribution or ask for a raise or get to a new job or start investing or invested in yourself?
Feeling completely uninspired? Scroll back through photos from the year or ask loved ones if they can think of anything for you.
It’s easy to get really caught up in the perpetual race of more, more, more – especially when it comes to success and career. Or just feeling demoralized because you haven’t achieved the same amount as that one person who you hate-follow on social media, even though that’s a really toxic thing to do to yourself. Honestly, please go mute that person right now if not outright unfollow. So, instead of ending this year with a fixation on how to do more in the next one, let’s celebrate all we did accomplish as we close out 2022.
Happy New Years to you and yours!

I love this nudge to celebrate the good things — and to look at our photos, which often document many "wins" that aren't found on our calendars.
