In My Humble Opinion

Know your benefits!

There’s a part of my personality that I acknowledge isn’t the most likable. It’s my intense need to act like a Siri or Alexa for which no one asked. You know the vibe. Standing around, talking to your friends, pondering a topic or question and then some know-it-all (who clearly has been eavesdropping) barges into your conversation with a point. Yeah, that’s me. There’s truly a physiological response in my body when I hear someone having a financial conversation and are either sharing wrong information or no one seems to be able to come up with an answer. It happened Wednesday night.

My husband, sister and I were noshing on some pizza outside a bar in Brooklyn when suddenly I heard the dulcet tones of a money-centric conversation. My head tilted to the side (like a dog cocking its head) and I heard a woman say, “but what does vesting mean? Like when do I get my money?”

“Umm, I don’t totally know,” responded one of her two friends.

“Yeah, me either,” said the other.

But I did. I knew.
